Top Best Hoverboard And Self-Balancing in 201Reviews

Let’s Wrap It Up!

This model is a typical travel iron in every way, and comes with some neat features that make it ideal for taking on long or short journeys, whether for business or pleasure. It is very compact and weighs in at little more than 450g – not heavy at all – and has a clear water tank so you can see that you are filling the reservoir to the correct levels. At 700watts it is reasonably powerful and will perform a decent job on your shirts and trousers, and it is simple to pack into your bags.

This model comes with a fold-away handle for added convenience, and is neatly designed for easy use. The footplate is designed to be non-stick so you will find it smooth to use. The Kingavon comes with a variable temperature control so is versatile and usable for different materials, and it can be used in dry or steam settings, whichever is correct for the item you are ironing. We recommend you always check the label on your clothes for the best advice. All in all, a decent travel iron, sensibly priced at little more than a tenner.

How it Works

We all know how an iron works, don’t we? For the men among us, here’s the low-down: your other half picks it up, and it miraculously turns creased clothes into pristine, fresh, ready to wear items. In no time at all. In actual fact, a travel iron is a simple device that uses a flat surface, which is heated by an electric heating element, to eradicate the creases by simple back and forth movement. You can get two main types – dry irons, and steam irons, and most models can do both – for different purposes.

You should also be thankful for electricity: in the ‘old days’ you would have used a flat iron, which was made of iron, that you would heat on a fire. That was a genuinely horrible job, and a far cry from the simplicity of turning water into steam, and getting rid of creases with very little effort indeed. Travel irons differ in some ways from regular irons: they tend to be smaller, and they may come with a folding handle for ease of transport and storage. They will be notably lighter than a standard iron, too, so you don’t have to lug a ton weight around in your baggage. So, now you have the picture, let’s talk about the top best travel irons you can buy today.

Important Features to Look For

When looking for a travel iron, it’s important to remember what you want from this handy device. You are not buying it for style, after all, so the keyword has to be practicality. The above ten are, of course, just some of those that you can buy – you can find many more with search – but we reckon they are the best of the bunch. Let’s look back at some of the features you need to think about when buying a travel iron:

Compact – this is something you will be carrying around with you in your luggage, suitcase or backpack, so you want it to be small, light and easy to store away. You need one with a folding handle – most of the above have this feature – as this makes it even smaller than you might imagine.

Steam and Dry – dual steam and dry functions are desirable, as it is important to ensure you use the right method on your clothes.

Variable Heat – it is essential that your travel iron has a variable heat control, as ironing at too high a heat can damage fabric, and too low will be ineffective. Always check the label on your clothing before you begin your ironing.

Vertical Steam – if you don’t have access to an ironing board, you may want to consider one of the models that has the vertical steam function. This means you can effectively iron – to a point anyway – a garment when it is hanging up, and not all of these models have this feature.

Water Capacity – you don’t want to be filling up your iron every few minutes, so choose a model with a sensible water capacity if you are likely to have more than just a couple of garments to iron.

There we go, we reckon we’ve covered travel irons pretty well, so let’s bring this to a close.

How to Choose a Travel Iron

It’s not always easy to choose a travel iron. After all, most of the models on the market look very similar and have functions that are essentially the same. However, not all of them do, and some will have features that are more beneficial to you than others. In this section, we look at some of the factors that you should be keeping in mind when you pick your travel iron.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is how much you are willing to spend and whether or not you are able to go over your budget. This is probably the most important question, as it will help you narrow down your options. Once you have determined your price range, you can move onto the other essential features and questions.

The weight is a key factor you need to bear in mind. After all, the whole reason it is a travel iron is because it is lightweight. You should ensure that it is compact and easy to store, so you can take it with you without having to worry about where you are going to put it. Especially in the case of luggage that will be travelling on an aeroplane.

Travel irons that have both a steam and dry iron function are also very useful to have. This means you will be prepared for just about any situation. The dry function is great for when you are in a rush and need to do a quick job, whereas the steam function is there to tackle the tougher creases that have formed.

You should always check out the reviews for the travel iron you are looking to purchase. They can tell you a lot about a product and its overall quality, giving you good insight before you buy. While expensive models are often more durable and reliable than the cheaper ones, this is not always the case, and so the reviews can come in very handy. Look at the quality and not the price tag.

Things to Look for

When you are looking to purchase your steam generator iron, there are a couple of additional features you might want to watch for before you buy. One of which is a comfortable handle. If you know you will be spending a while ironing, then a handle with a soft and comfy grip can be essential. This way, it can help to prevent your hand from cramping and also helps things to move faster and smoothly.

A travel bag is something you should look for when you go to purchase your iron as it can come in very handy. It keeps your iron protected and safe during transit, but also prevents any excess water you may have forgotten about from leaking onto your other possessions. Plus, you can store your measuring jug in the bag as well, so all your ironing tools are together.

Dual voltage is key for international travel, and should be strongly considered when you go to buy your travel iron. This allows you to use the voltage level both in the UK/Europe and across other parts of the world, such as the USA and Canada. All you need to do is select the relevant voltage level when you go to switch the iron on.

The Good

This travel iron is compact and easy to carry around with you from place to place. It may be small, but it is also mighty with an 80ml water tank capacity, and the ability to remove even the toughest creases from your clothing.

It has a dual voltage feature, allowing you to use it both at home and abroad. So the next time you take your motorhome across Europe, you’ll be covered. The stainless steel soleplate allows for seamless gliding across fabrics for an easier clean. Plus, it has some great temperature settings.

Our View

This travel iron is a great little companion to take with you when you are off travelling. Small and compact, it will slide into your luggage easily so you can keep your nice clothes freshly pressed. It’s cheap too, with a low price that is sure to have you intrigued. If you are looking for something affordable, with a good range of features, and lightweight, then this is the one you should be taking a look at.

To Conclude

In this guide, we have looked at some of the best travel irons on the market. They all have a range of different functions and features that make them such a good choice. Whether you are looking for one that is at a budget price, or one that is a little higher end, there is an iron here that will suit your needs. Of course, with such a wide range of travel iron models, it isn’t possible to pinpoint any one as the best. After all, a lot of it is down to personal preference. However, you aren’t likely to be let down by any of the ones listed here.

Dual Voltage

If you are traveling abroad then it is important to find out if the country uses a different voltage, since electrical appliances in the US work on 100 volts, but this could be higher in other countries. Try to ensure that your travel iron is dual voltage so it can be adjusted from 100 volts to the 240 that is going through power outlets in other countries. If not your compact iron could be fried. The recommended irons we have reviewed in this guide are all dual voltage.

Pull Quote

The higher the wattage, the faster the iron heats up and the more steam it puts out.

We also wanted an iron that works fast. If the goal of most people is to press something quickly and move on with life, you want an iron that heats up in seconds. A good iron only needs heat, steam, and pressure to transform a crumpled heap into a natty button-down. Heat relaxes fibers enough that the iron’s steam and pressure can then push them into submission. Watts are the key to how quickly this happens.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The Maytag may be too light to get creases out of some fabrics. If you’re ironing something big and heavy, or something with stubborn creases (like linen), extra weight is useful for pushing out and smoothing those wrinkles. We still think the Rowenta Steamforce’s combination of heft and powerful steam bursts are worth the investment if you iron a lot or iron anything with precision creases like quilt seams. But for occasional ironing, or even light everyday ironing, we think the Maytag’s agile design more than meets those needs.

We wish the Maytag had a longer cord, which is only eight feet. Sometimes extra length helps you maneuver the iron around an ironing board. And it would give a little more flexibility for setting up your ironing station if you have limited space and limited outlets.

What to look forward to

In fall of 2018, Rowenta will release a new version of their Focus iron, the DW5260. We looked at older versions of this iron (the DW5080 and the DW5183) but skipped both for testing when we heard one or the other might be discontinued this year. We’ll consider trying the new version during our next round of tests.

What we didn’t test

The Rowenta DW519iron has already been out for a few years, and it was a special edition when it was released. We couldn’t confirm its continued availability.

We heard that the Rowenta DW5080 will be discontinued later this year, so we passed on testing it.

The Black+Decker D2030 was one of our runner-up picks in the original guide, but the D3030 has replaced this model and is much, much better.

We tested the Oliso TG1100 in the past but decided to skip the upgraded model. We’ve read complaints that the big selling point—feet that automatically lift the iron off of fabric so it doesn’t burn—often breaks and fails. Plus, it is another really pricey iron.

The Kenmore 8059is now Consumer Reports’s third choice for best iron, but we had trouble actually finding it for sale anywhere at a decent price.

Wrapping Up

The list above provides a sampling of the best travel irons available within a reasonable price range. All of the irons listed can be purchased online. These irons are perfect for travel but are also powerful enough to tackle those large ironing jobs at home.

One year ago

After our latest round of testing in December 2015, our new iron pick is the Black+Decker D3030 Allure. It replaces our former top pick, the T-fal Ultraglide, which developed leaks in long-term testing. We also have a new runner-up and upgrade pick—the Shark Ultimate Professional GI50and Rowenta DW 9280 SteamForce—and review ironing boards for the first time, choosing Laundry Solutions by Westex as a fine option and the Homz Durabilt as an upgrade.

Care and maintenance

Whichever iron you end up with, take a minute to read the manual. We’re not kidding. It sounds obvious, but it’s the best maintenance tip we can give you.

Whichever iron you end up with, take a minute to read the manual. We’re not kidding. It sounds obvious, but it’s the best maintenance tip we can give you.

According to Pat Slaven, project lead on the Consumer Reports iron test, frustration could be prevented if people emptied the water reservoirs when they’re finished ironing or used the burst-of-steam function to flush mineral deposits once a month (or otherwise followed the instructions). Failing to read the manual, Slaven insisted, is why so many irons end up leaking, spitting, or broken.

How many years? Unfortunately, no one tests longevity. And it was difficult to decipher the credibility of user posts about durability. More than one well-intentioned ironer griped when after using distilled water, his iron, designed for hard water, went kaput. Our general sense was that an iron used according to its instructions should last about four years, but even higher-priced irons get dinged for early failure.

Common Travel Iron Features

Whether or not either of the above features could be considered good all comes down to a matter of preference. There are; however, a few features which can only serve to help you without posing much in the way of potential drawbacks.

Drip Prevention – Some irons (such as the Ivation we covered above) come with features which prevent the iron from dripping. Not only does this make ironing a less messy business, it may prevent you from burning your hand with hot water.

A Long Cord – Many travel irons don’t advertise the length of their cords. However, if you happen across an iron which has a rather long cord, you’ll certainly appreciate the added bit of convenience.

A Short Heat-Up Time – Of course, why wait around all day for your iron to heat up if you don’t have to? The shorter the heat-up time, the better.

A High Wattage – Now, not everybody needs a high wattage. However, having an iron which is capable of getting the job done in a shorter amount of time can never be seen as a bad thing. The higher the wattage, the more powerful your iron can be.

Flat Iron Straighteners

Flat iron straighteners generally work best on very thick, curly, frizzy or African-American hair. They use a much higher temperature that hair brush straighteners, and by clamping the hair tightly between the two flat plates, the heat is transferred very effectively to the hair. Excessive use of flat irons can potentially damage your hair. Unlike hair brush straighteners, flat irons cannot be used to add volume to your hair.

If you plan to travel with your flat iron straightener, then our team recommends bringing a heat-resistant storage bag with you.

The drawbacks of flat iron straighteners

There are also some disadvantages to using flat iron straighteners:

Flat irons come in many different designs. If you are looking for a fast and effective way to occasionally straighten your hair, but have thinner or shorter hair that damages easily, a higher quality flat iron model with thinner plates may be an appropriate option.

Hair Brush Straighteners

As mentioned, it is well known that excessive heat can damage your hair and your scalp. In fact, for some hair, water hotter than body temperature (98°F) needs to be avoided. Therefore, if you have thin hair or hair that is easily damaged, a hair brush straightener would be your first choice, as they generally use a lower level of heat than a flat iron. In addition to flattening hair, hair brush straighteners can be used to add shine to dull hair.

Hair brush straighteners come in three different styles:

Jiffy ESTEAM Personal Hand Held Steamer

Arguable the best hand held steamer, the Jiffy Esteam is a lightweight, simple solution. This is a great portable steamer for use at home, on the road, or at the office. It easily stows away in a drawer or closet. A 600 watt heating element puts it at one of the most powerful handheld steamers available with a quick minute heat up time.

Some home owners and professionals use it as a replacement for their iron. It lasts about 1minutes on one tank fill. The only downside is that there is no on/off switch, so once you plug this baby in you better be ready for action.

Garment Steamers vs. Traditional Steam Irons

Garment steamers are a great addition to your standard steam iron and some of the best garment steamers can even be a replacement providing ample, continuous steam that kicks those wrinkles to the curb. Wrinkles simply ruin even the best looking and most beautiful outfits, making sharp pants look shabby and nice shirts look sloppy. While steam irons get the job done, they also take a long time to use.

Handheld steamers are an excellent portable option for taking on trips as well, instead of lugging around a heavy traditional iron. Clothes steamers are best for soft fabrics such as cotton and delicate fabrics that can accidentally be damaged by the harsh heat of an iron. Some individuals will own both and use the steamer on thinner types of clothing and iron on heavy duty tasks. Since a good garment steamer is about the same price as an iron, it really comes down to preference if you are trying to choose one or the other.

The downsides to a garment steamer is that it does not handle thicker clothing such as a suit jacket as well as a traditional steam iron. Some of the best clothes steamers can compete with steam irons though. You may need to take several passes at it to really get all the most stubborn wrinkles out. Another thing they aren’t as good at is making sharp creases. For example, it can be pretty difficult to get crisp looking pleats with a garment steamer.

A word of caution when using a clothes steamer is to make sure the item is not labeled dry clean only. If so, steaming the garment may damage it or leave moisture spots. Furthermore, you’ll want to use caution on new items or with colors that could run. In this case, test a small area inside a seam just to be safe.

What to Look for Before Selecting a Garment Steamer

Before checking out our clothing steamer reviews section with the top best garment steamers, here are some things you should keep an eye on before hitting that buy button.

If you ask a laundry professional there are technically three types of garment steamers: floor models (also known as full size models), compact portable models, and steamer accessory tools that come included with heavy duty steam cleaners. For frequent travelers or those low on space a handheld steamer is a no-brainer for its light weight and small foot print. Be careful when shopping for a handheld steamer because many of them are cheap, underpowered, and sometimes spit water all over the place. Those who are looking for a garment steamer for home use are probably best off with a floor model that features a few holders for clothing and other items to hang from as you operate the steamer. If you are on the market for a heavy duty steam cleaner for steam cleaning floors and whatnot, you may want to skip a standalone garment steamer and find a heavy duty unit model that comes with a steam cleaning accessory.

One of the key differentiating characteristics of garment and clothing steamers is the warm up duration. Some garment steamers take up to 1minutes or even longer to heat up and be ready for dewrinkling action. It is like waiting for a pot to boil, it can be pretty boring, so if you are a person who puts a high value of efficiency you may want to pay more a bit more for a model that heats up fast. A decent sized water tank is another consideration. Those with smaller water capacities will need to be refilled often, so if you’re planning on doing some bulk steaming sessions you’ll want one with a big tank. Another performance characteristic you’ll want to consider is the reach of the hose, a longer hose and longer power cord makes for a lot more flexibility when it’s steam cleaning time.

A lot of the time higher wattage = higher max temp, but that is not always the case. Always check the maximum temperature of the unit and don’t just assume because it has a high wattage specification it has a super high max temp. If you find a model with high wattage but mediocre max temperature it is an inefficient model that uses more electricity than a higher quality model would to produce the equivalent amount of power. Another general rule of thumb is that the higher the temperature, the greater the ability to remove the most difficult of wrinkles and creases. Furthermore, in the upper ranges of steam temp you gain the ability to kill germs too.

Last but not least, is the extra bells and whistles each model comes featured with. Some of the most expensive steamers come with a whole kit of goodies, or the manufacturer will sell add on accessories you can purchase separately. Interchangeable nozzles, attachable brushes, multiple hangers/hooks/holders, clips, long hoses, and wheels on the bottom of the unit are just a few of the extras too look out for. Automatic shut-off is another smart feature to look for just in case you accidentally leave it on.

Read the clothes steamer reviews/fabric steamer reviews section carefully so you know exactly what your future steamer will capable of.

A variety of accessories can impact how useful and convenient a garment steamer is. These accessories include interchangeable nozzles, clips, and hangers to support clothing.

Thanks to its 40-ounce water tank, the Steamfast can provide steam for up to 4continuous minutes of use.

Epica 800 Watt Handheld Fabric Steamer

The Epica Handheld Fabric Steamer is powered by 800 watts, which means it can convert cold water to steam in as little as two minutes. Thanks to its seven-ounce tank, the Epica will continue running for up to 1minutes between fill-ups. For a portable garment steamer, these are good specs for both home and travel use.

J-2000 Jiffy Garment Steamer

The J-2000 Jiffy Garment Steamer may not be the most attractive machine on the market, but it hails from a company whose sole product is steamers. With 1,300 watts of power, a warm-up time between one and two minutes, and a massive, 96-ounce tank, the Jiffy will deliver all the steam you need for a class-leading hour and a half! This machine is suitable for both home and light commercial use. It has even been known to assist owners with cleaning carpet and removing wall paper.

Electric guitars for travel

With an electric travel guitar, you may also want to consider a travel-worthy amp. Our review of Lunchbox Amps is a good place to get started. Knowing you may not want to drag an amp along, some models include a special practice-friendly headphone output so you can jam out (albeit silently).

For you Strat fans out there, Squier makes a ¾-scale version of the Bullet, the Squier Mini Strat, that looks and feels much like a full-size Strat.

The Squier Mini Strat delivers a lot of sound and great feel for a minimal price. It makes a great kids’ starter guitar too.

Hear how the Squier Mini Strat stacks up against a collection of full-sized electrics.

If you’re looking for something a little less traditional looking, you can grab one of Traveler Guitars’ uniquely shaped models, like the Speedster or the Ultra-Light. There’s also Hofner Shorty Electric, that give you all the functionality of a normal sized electric in a scaled-down package.

Back at home, your travel electric guitar can add another unique voice to your jams and recording sessions. Plugged into your go-to vintage amp or a digital-everything modeling unit, you may be surprised by just how versatile these little guys can be!

Hofner also makes a Shorty Bass, similar to their Shorty Guitar, for all of you nomadic thunder monkeys.

Acoustic guitars for the road

Travel acoustics are essentially downsized guitars designed specifically for the purpose. Now, you could just run out and buy the first downsized acoustic guitar you see, but you might wind up with something more akin to a ukelele than a guitar.

If you’re often on the road, and you don’t have the space to lug around a full-size acoustic, then you can always pick up a travel sized acoustic. Now, it might require a little effort to find something that fits your sound and lifestyle due to the size of these guitars, but there are travel guitars, like the Washburn Rover Travel Guitar and the Martin Steel String Backpacker, that despite their size, project a lot of sound.

The super-compact Martin Steel String Backpacker brings surprisingly powerful acoustic sound anyplace thanks to its solid spruce top.

Travel-sized guitars are perfect for people who want to take their sound on the road without using up a lot of storage space or running into airline check-in hassles. But the smaller body and neck plus somewhat lower volume of mini guitars may be a turnoff. You want a regular guitar, but … smaller. Well, there are some acoustics a bit smaller than a regular guitar, that retain the shape and replicate most of the feel of their bigger cousins. Guitars like the Luna Muse Safari Series, or the Ibanez PF2MHOPN, are ¾-scale instruments that produce decent tone and a similar feel to playing a conventional acoustic. These guitars are also good for beginners and children, as their short-scale necks require less finger-stretching dexterity to master. They’re also both great-looking little instruments with friendly price tags.

If you need the adaptability of an electric but don’t want to miss out on the sound of an acoustic, then you should probably consider getting a mini acoustic-electric guitar. Some good ones to consider include the Martin LX1E Little Martin, the Yamaha APXTor the Traveler Escape.

Like full-sized acoustic-electric guitars, these smaller, travel-friendly versions have built in preamps and output jacks so when you want to play in amplified settings, you’re good to go. Aside from tone controls and anti-feedback circuits, these preamps often include a tuner—convenient when you’re on the go.

The Luna Muse Safari Mahogany ¾ Dreadnought gets high marks for its meaty tone and excellent low-end response.

This ¾ dreadnought from Luna generates a lot of well-balanced sound and makes a great starter guitar for kids.

Keeping Your Guitar Protected

If we haven’t managed to talk you out of taking your Precious on the road, we understand. There’s really no substitute for a prized guitar, and if it has to go with you, so be it. But if that’s the situation, by all means make sure it’s super well protected with a case that can hold up to the worst that roadies and baggage handlers can dish out. The key is to find a case that fits your axe exactly or can be modified to do so. Some case manufacturers offer moldable interiors that you shape to exactly match your guitars curves and contours.

Don’t forget that hard case! The Gator GWE Acou-¾ Hardshell Case offers affordable, durable protection.

At Musician’s Friend you’ll find a huge selection of acoustic and electric guitar cases from all the major guitar brands like Fender and Gibson as well as specialty manufacturers like SKB and Gator Cases.

This Fender Pro Series Strat/Tele Case is one tough mother, and is guaranteed to keep your Precious safe.

Keep in mind that if you plan to fly with your guitar, it should meet FAA specs and have locks accepted by the TSA.

The Gibson SG Hardshell Case has a plush interior that’s custom designed to hold your SG securely in place.

Finding the right case or gig bag can sometimes be tricky. To help you find a model-specific solution, check out our Case Finder tool.

Product details of Mini Travel Iron with Temperature Control Function (Blue)

Don’t ever go out in public with wrinkled clothes. It’s never an appealing sight to see. Give people the right impression through your smoothed attire with the help of the Mini Travel Iron.

Weight is a major consideration when traveling, I found out how much each iron weight for you.

I found out the maximum temperature that each curling iron can reach to help you in your purchasing decision.

Is it a thermacell iron cordless iron or a iron that is corded and dual voltage? I found out all the details.

Steam irons

Today’s steam irons have innumerable benefits since the level and output of steam can be precisely measured for different applications and fabrics. Because steam opens a fabric’s weave, deep-set creases can be better ironed out and, generally speaking, more steam means quicker, easier ironing.

The impact of its steaming power depends on how well an iron can generate and manage heat – and this is largely determined through its engineering, design and wattage. Normally, the higher the wattage, the greater the heat generated. Most models of iron have steam features, and these come in basic forms: vertical, variable, burst and continuous.

Vertical steam

Vertical steam is useful for hanging garments such as suits and dresses, especially those made from delicate fabrics, or for ironing hanging curtains. Ensure you hold the iron a few centimetres from the garment in order to avoid burning.

Burst of steam

A steam-burst feature provides additional, instantaneous power on demand, smoothing out difficult creases or for creating sharp creases on trousers. Such a surge (or ‘boost’) of steam is expressed in grams per minute, and tend to range from 20g per minute to up to about 70g/min in steam irons, increasing to up to 150g per minute on steam generators.

Steam generator irons

Steam generator irons are essentially ‘souped up’ steam irons which come attached to a steam generator – and it is this generator that supplies all the steam. These devices are invaluable for anyone who processes a lot of laundry, cutting ironing time in half as the higher steam pressure generated means both sides of garments are ironed at the same time. Additionally, because the steam is generated by a separate generator the iron element of the appliance is lighter and easier to use than conventional steam irons.

Presses are most commonly used by cleaning professionals. They consist of large plates – measuring anything up to 56cm long to 26cm wide – which are brought together by closing a handle, applying as much as 100lbs of pressure. They can be used in the conventional manner, or side to side for pressing wide or long clothing, curtains and sheets etc.

Not only will a press cut your ironing time by as much as 50% but it will also prevent the ‘shiny’ finish that is often produced by irons. Though a press takes up a larger space than an ironing board when in use, it folds up neatly when your ironing’s over.

Trouser presses are extremely efficient at removing creases from all styles of trousers – and especially good at getting rid of unsightly wrinkles behind the knees. They may be used on any material which you would normally iron – although some man-made fibres may require extra pressing for best results.Another advantage of trouser presses is they don’t leave a surface sheen on the material – an effect often seen following repeated ironing.

Travel irons are smaller and lighter than household irons. Usually weighing in at well under a kilogram, they are unsuitable for large quantities of laundry as, at 700 – 800W, they are less powerful than conventional models.

Many travel irons incorporate some form of steam spray facility and most come with features such as fold-down handles and travel pouches for easy packing. Travel steam brushes are a practical alternative to travel irons. Small and compact for easy portability, they work with tap water and can be used for vertical and horizontal steaming as well as pressing.

Conventional Steam Irons

In a conventional steam ironing system, a little amount of steam is released on the clothes when you iron it. As a result, the time spent in getting a perfectly ironed fabric is reduced and, at the same time, the creases in the clothes disappear quickly.

The modern conventional models come equipped with features such as self cleaning, auto shutoff, vertical steaming and steaming amount control. Even features like the ability to use the water directly delivered by the tap have been included in these conventional irons, thanks to a new filtering feature called anti-calc valve.

It should be mentioned that these feature are not a luxury in modern conventional irons, they are the norm.

Pressurised Generator Irons

Pressurised generator irons are the best rated steam irons since they generate a lot of steam but with added pressure (bar in expensive models) so that the steam can permeate the fabric that is being ironed. This gives crisp and wrinkle-free results.

Cordless Irons

A lot of users desire mobility from their steam iron system. They want the unit to be moveable from one place to another. With traditional irons, this was not possible since the movement was restricted to how long the power cord was. Now, however, there are cordless irons that do not come with a cord. They can be taken from one room to another easily and without any hassles.

I traveled out of town for my wedding so my wedding dress was folded into a carry-on suitcase, not a pretty sight! My bridesmaid bought this iron for a friend and then bought another to use on my dress and her dress. The seamstress who altered my dress pressed it for me and this little iron did a better job! I wore my dress for 1hours and there was barely a crease. I’m viewing it now to make my own purchase!

Steam Features

Steam: Be sure what your getting. Is it a steam iron or a dry iron? Today, most full-size irons sold are steam irons, but travel irons are generally not.

Steam Burst: Does it have a have a steam burst button to help with tough wrinkles?

Spray Nozzle: Does it have a built in spray nozzle to pre-dampen fabric in front of the iron?

Water Tank: How big is the water tank? A tiny tank means you’ll constantly have to refill it. A clear gauge in the water tank is helpful. Some tanks are removable for easy filling and emptying.

Self-cleaning: If you leave excess water in an iron, it can cause calcium deposits that leave a white powder on your fabric. The self-cleaning feature removes excess water and prevents calcium deposits.

Calcium filter: Most irons tell you to use distilled water and to empty the tank when you’re done, but some irons have a calcium filter that allows you to use tap water.

Don’t automatically think a lightweight iron is better. A heavier iron is actually helpful because the weight does a lot of the work for you. A regular iron weighs about three pounds and lightweights are about half that.

Once you narrow your options down to a few irons you like, hold them to see how the handle feels in your hand. If you have a large hand, you’ll want to be sure your hand fits comfortably between the handle and the body of the iron. My hands are on the small side, and some handles feel unwieldy to me.
