How to Choose a Tower Fan
Finding the perfect tower fan for you is not an easy task, especially with so many on the market. In this section of the guide, we help you to figure out which questions you should be asking yourself before you go to buy, as well as a few of the features you should be looking out for.
The first question you need to answer is about your budget. How much have you set aside for your tower fan? Are you willing to spend a little more or is it quite set? By answering these questions, you can really narrow down your options when it comes to selecting a suitable model.
Where are you planning on using your fan? Will it be in the living room, the bedroom, or somewhere else in the home? Answering this question means you can then figure out how much space the fan needs to cover. Do you need one for a large room or a small one? The models listed below contain fans for every room size, and so it is important to read the description carefully.
Oscillation is also an important factor. Many tower fans will oscillate, evenly distributing cool air around the room. However, there are also those that do not. These only push air in one direction, which can lead to it stagnating. An oscillating fan is highly recommended, especially in the case of medium and large rooms. Oscillation tends to provide the occupants of the room with more cool air and comfort.
You should always check out the reviews for the tower fan you are looking to purchase. They can tell you a lot about a product and its overall quality, giving you good insight before you buy. While expensive models are often more durable and reliable than the cheaper ones, this is not always the case, and so the reviews can come in very handy. Look at the quality and not the price tag.
Things to Look for
Before you purchase your tower fan, there are a few things you might want to take into consideration first. One of these is the inclusion of a remote control. While it is not essential, a remote can make things easier if you wish to adjust the temperature from the comfort of your armchair or bed. It’s a nice additional feature, especially if you are about to go to sleep.
An LCD display is also something to consider when you purchase your tower fan. This allows you to see the current setting clearly, and also tends to have a night mode so that you can read the display clearly in all lighting conditions. Of course, if you plan to purchase one for your bedroom, consider the fact that the LCD display can be a little too bright at night.
The great thing about this oscillating fan is that while the tower rotates, the motor housing remains stable and secure. This improves the overall safety of the fan. It also features an aluminium sidebar for additional strength and stability.
It has a control panel that is easy to use with an LCD display as well as a remote control so that it can be adjusted from a distance. It has three different wind modes so that you can adjust things to suit your preferences. There is also a timer built in as well as a cooling system.
This reasonably priced tower fan is stylish and will stand nicely in the corner of the room. It does a fantastic job of heating the room, and has a range of features that allow for complete control over the temperature adjustment. Plus, it has been constructed so that is is incredibly sturdy and safe in your home. A great buy at a reasonable price.
We have looked at some fantastic tower fans in this guide, all of which are suited to different purposes and requirements. As a result, it ca be pretty tricky to decide which is the best tower fan out of the models we have showcased here. It’s all down to what you need in your home as well as the budget you have set yourself. Whether you are looking for something cheap and practical, or with a slightly larger price tag, there is a tower fan here that is sure to meet your needs. It’s all here in this handy and comprehensive tower fan guide.
Tower fans are usually sturdier than pedestal fans. When choosing the best tower fan for you, you need to make sure the particular model of your choice has enough stability in its controls. The best fans usually comes with a remote control and is easy to operate even without remote.
Oscillation and air speed options are another important issue. Most fans today comes with these features but it’s better to check before making your purchase as some cheap fans may not have the oscillation feature. Oscillation can be from left to right and also from up and down depending on the fan.
Often, tower fan comes with air filter feature. You need to how it filters the air. Some use regular air filter where others use ionizer. Filters also need to be replaced/cleaned regularly. Sometimes the regular filter maintenance can be costly and annoying. So make sure you know what you are signing up for. If you decide you can live without the air filter, then buy a fan that doesn’t have filtration system.
Most cheap fans are made of plastic. Even some expensive brands are adopting plastic to reduce their costs. Usually poor quality plastic parts break down more often. If your tower fan is to be used regularly throughout the year and you want a good long useful life for your fan, you may wish to buy a fan made of metal.
Safety is a big issue especially if you have children in your household. The safety grate that covers the fan must not be large enough to let your fingers through. Some grills are easily removable for cleaning while others are not. You need to take all these things into consideration when choosing your fan.
Weight may be relevant or irrelevant depending on your intended use. If you wish your fan to remain stationary in one room, weight may not be a big factor. However, if you need to move your tower fan between rooms regularly, you might be better off buying something on the lighter side.
Electrical tools such as a tower fan will consume energy, there is no avoiding it. However the amount of energy it uses will affect the environment as well as your utility bill. Some tower fans come with sleep timers that uses auto switch off technology to shut down your fan after a certain time.
You may want the best tower fan with all the latest features and top notch quality performance. However, that is not the best deal for you if it’s not in your price range. However, choosing cheaper fan to save money may not always be a good choice if a cheaper fan doesn’t serve your purpose as they tend to have less features and lower useful life.
FAN FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS
Before making a purchase, consider the following factors to choose the best tower fan for your needs.
Tower fans have a tall and narrow design, allowing them to distribute airflow over a large area while taking up minimal floor space. On average, most tower fans stand 30 to 40 inches tall, and the base takes up about one square foot. Homeowners can easily position the fan in narrow spaces and corners, where it won’t interrupt a room’s foot traffic.
A majority of tower fans oscillate, or rotate from side to side, in order to direct airflow over a wider area. Consumers will typically find tower fans with an oscillating arc of 90 degrees or 9degrees. A handful of tower fans on the market can oscillate a full 360 degrees, but unless you plan to place the fan in the center of a room, full-circle rotation is probably unnecessary. Some models also come with the ability to select the width of the oscillating arc.
Many tower fans have added features that increase their appeal to consumers. For example, remotes allow a user to start the fan, adjust the speed, and control the oscillating function from anywhere in the room. Some tower fans come with air filters that prevent dust, pollen, and pet dander from recirculating. Additionally, some models have ionizers that purify the air as it circulates through the fan.

Dyson AM0Cooling Tower Fan
Our number one tower fan recommendation has to be the Dyson AM0Cooling Tower. We love the design, it’s a fresh take on what a tower fan should look like in a market full of plastic boxes.
Dyson cool fans have powerful airflow and are up to 70% quieter than conventional fans. This fan draws in surrounding air to project a smooth powerful airflow to cool your home. To maximise air circulation the Dyson AM0can be set to oscillate.
As you have probably noticed this fan doesn’t incorporate a fan, making it both exceptionally safe and easy to clean.
Additionally the AM0is incredibly energy efficient consuming 10% less electricity than the AM0model. For additional energy savings the fan can be put on a sleep timer, with intervals ranging from 1mins to hours.
All of this fabulous functionality can be controlled by a simple portable remote. This remote can precisely control airflow settings, the sleep timer and the oscillation of the fan. As an added bonus it magnetically attaches to the fan so you never have to worry about locating your controller.
Honeywell HO-5500RE Tower Fan
This compact fan offers a wide range of oscillation up to 1degrees. Oscillation and temperature can be controlled using a useful handheld remote. The fan itself has wind modes to suit the user’s preference and creates a smooth but quiet flow of cool air.
Additionally, the product has been designed to ensure maximum safety as it incorporates two aluminium bars for added stability. There is also a gliding grill function, meaning the motor is housed internally, and this allows for smooth oscillation without any user safety concerns.
Dimplex Mont Blanc Cooling Fan
Number on our list is the Dimplex Mont Blanc Cooling fan which has also received rave reviews. This stylish fan offers fan speed options which can be set on a timer. These setting can be set using a simple hand held remote control.
The Dimplex Mont Blan Cooling fan oscillates much like conventional tower fans. However, unlike most tower fans it incorporates a safety cut off. Therefore, you can be assured that if this fan is knocked over it will cut itself off to prevent any damage to the fan or your floor.
This fan is also fully portable and incorporates a carrying handle. That makes it super easy to transport from room to room, and as such, you don’t have to be constricted to using this tower fan in a single location.
Mylek Cyclops Tower Fan
Another great option if you’re on a budget is the Mylek Cyclops 34″ Remote Control Oscillating Tower Fan. This tower fan incorporates some premium features without the premium price tag.
Such features include a stylish LED display as well as air speed settings, which provides a wide range of cooling options for your home. However, what is unique about the Mylek Cyclops is that it features a built in ionizer.
This helps remove dust and dirt particles from being circulated around your room. Ultimately, allowing the fan to produce a smooth flow of filtered air into your living space.
All of these setting can be controlled and set on a timer with the use of the fans handheld remote control. Please not this remote takes AAA batteries, which are not included with the product should you choose to purchase it.
Last but not least on our list is the Honeywell HO-1100RE tower Fan. Which is another reliable tower fan choice, if you’re shopping on a tight budget.
This fan offers levels of variable air flow and oscillates smoothly to maximise cool air circulation around the room. Its compact modern design makes it ideal for living areas and home offices.
A crucial factor in deciding what fan is best for you, is the size of the room you want to cool down. Is it a small office room or a larger bedroom or living area? Thankfully, tower fans are an excellent option for cooling rooms of any size.
However, not all tower fans were made equal and often come in different heights, with varying air outputs. Therefore, before purchasing a fan you should check what size of room it can cool. Most high-quality manufacturers will provide this information in their product description.
Something that is commonly overlooked in many tower fans is that they often incorporate filters which will collect dirt and dust particles.
The downside to this is that these filters often have to be cleaned or otherwise replaced. Neglecting to clean or replace filter can cause fans to overheat and burn out.
Some modern models incorporate ionisation as a filtration method, which removes dirt particles and odours. These fans are usually slightly more expensive, but often last significantly longer. Ultimately, you pay for what you get.
One of the most key features of any fan is its speed settings. We would recommend that you should pick a tower fan that features a wide range of speed settings. Where possible get a fan that has a minimum of speed levels. This will give you the option to gently circulate air around your room or blast it with cool air to rapidly cool your homes.
When buying any electronic goods for your home you want to get your money’s worth. Therefore, it is always important to check if the manufacturer provides any guarantees or warranties. Brands such as Dyson will typically provide a 2-year guarantee.

The Insider Pick
When trying to beat the summer heat outdoors, a glass of lemonade at the pool works great. Beating the heat indoors works best with an electric fan. The best electric fan is the Vornado 660 Large Whole Room Air Circulator fan, as it provides the best mix of versatility, good airflow, and quiet operation.
Most people love summer, but there are three little things that make it rough: Excessive heat, the stinky sweat that heat causes, and nasty tan lines. You wear high socks one time while mowing the lawn, and you have to live down the bad tan line all summer.
Fortunately, the best electric fans can help you with the first two problems. Electric fans move a volume of air around your body, allowing you to feel cooler and sweat less. When a larger fan moves air, it circulates the air throughout a room, eliminating hot spots and cold spots.
Electric fans have been around for decades, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stood still, just spinning their wheels … or blades. Even a simple home appliance like an electric fan has seen impressive gains in function and performance over recent years. With all of the available designs, finding a fan that can meet your specific needs has never been easier.
Considerations for a fan
Although a fan seems like a simple device, it actually has a variety of uses that make it a valuable appliance for your home. Sure, you could buy a basic fan with no features for a really low price. But missing out on these features means you might as well go back to the Victorian era with fancy handheld fans. Just don’t go back to wearing heavy, long clothing in the summer, or that stinky sweat problem we mentioned earlier will grow about ten-fold, fan or no fan.
Having air move across your skin helps keep you cool, so a fan is a great option. Not only does the moving air feel good against your skin, but, as
Gizmodo discusses, it also evaporates sweat on the skin, which is the body’s method of cooling itself.
An oscillating fan turns back and forth, allowing the air movement to shift throughout the room. If you have multiple people in the room — or if your big dog likes to lay directly in front of the non-oscillating fan — the rotation of the fan works well, making sure everyone feels some air movement.
A non-traditional fan won’t feature spinning blades. Some of these types of fans also will work as heaters by flipping a switch. These uncommon fan designs will carry a higher price point than bladed fans. Some non-traditional fans use a decorative design to hide the fact that they are fans, allowing them to work well in a room’s décor, according to
A small personal fan may include a clip, allowing you to place it almost anywhere … even on a shirt collar. These tiny fans don’t move air around an entire room but may help you feel cooler while sitting at a desk or at a baseball game. Some of these fans run from batteries.
A tower fan is a specific non-traditional fan design. Towers are tall and thin, meaning they occupy less space than a traditional fan that has a large, round fan blade housing. Tower fans tend to run quieter than traditional fan blade designs.
We’ve rounded up the best electric fans you can buy for any room or need. We’ve included highly rated normal fans, tower styles, personal ones, and other special fan designs. Although the Vornado 660 Large Whole Room Air Circulator Fan is our top electric fan pick, for various reasons laid out in the slides below, you should also consider the Seville Classics Ultra Slimline Tower Fan, the Avalon Convertible Table-Top and Clip Fan, the Rowenta VU555Turbo Silence Oscillating Fan, and the Dyson Air Multiplier AM0Table Fan.
Why you’ll love it: The Vornado 660 Large Whole Room Air Circulator fan sets itself apart from the crowd with multiple air flow settings and a small footprint.
For a versatile electric fan, the Vornado 660 Large Whole Room Air Circulator earns high marks. It works in a number of different situations and locations, so it should fit almost everyone’s needs. The fan is small enough to set on a desk and keep you cool as a personal fan, but the Vornado 660 has enough power at the highest setting to circulate the air properly in a large room, too.
Gizmodo’s review highlights the high level of air circulation power you’ll receive with the Vornado 660 versus its size. It only measures about 1x 13.x 1inches, so it can fit just about anywhere. Don’t let its small size fool you, though. The
Boing Boing review praises the power of the 660 fan and points out that it offers four air speed settings, as well as a longer than average power cord, which frees you up to place the fan in multiple locations. loves the fact that the Vornado 660 runs silently on the lowest power setting, while delivering an impressive level of air flow at the highest power setting, if you don’t mind a bit of noise. However, another felt this fan didn’t deliver enough airflow power for its high price.
Most buyers seem to agree that the Vornado fan is more than powerful enough to cool large or small spaces, and expert reviewers consistently praise this fan. It is pricey, but it’s a worthwhile investment for a powerful fan that’s built to work in a variety of situations.
Four power settings to precisely adjust airflow, small footprint versus some fans of equal power, longer than average power cord, available in black or white colors, silent operation on low setting
Why you’ll love it: The Seville Classics Ultra Slimline Tower Fan offers the best combination of silent operation and airflow in an attractive tower fan design.
One of the most common complaints we all have about electric fans is noise. Sure, almost any electric fan can move a lot of air. However, it may sound like a fleet of airplanes have invaded your home when your old box fan gets going on the high setting.
If you need a quiet fan that also moves a decent amount of air, the Seville Classics Ultra Slimline Tower Fan is a terrific option. This tower style fan runs far quieter than most blade style fans, while offering a good price point, according to

Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan with Remote Control
On the cheaper side as far as tower fans go. While the remote control features are nice, it lacks the raw power you should be looking for in a tower fan, and just isn’t a very desirable fan overall. It doesn’t take up much space, but what’s the point if it can’t perform? As well, assembly of the device is self is a hassel. In short, stay away.
This is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a tower fan that isn’t too expensive, but boasts most of the features of more expensive tower fans. It has the raw power to back up those added features as well, and will serve you well throughout the years. The build of the fan is sturdy and tough, and is constructed to last quite a long time.
Most of these pieces of equipment are going to be pretty sleek, but make sure they are. Nobody wants a piece of furniture that isn’t fitting, and sleek. It’s not too much of an effort to find a fitting one for a house, but keep in mind the nicer looking models are often going to cost quite a bit more, so just be on the lookout. Try to choose one that fits with your own décor and has a color scheme that is easily replicated. Tower fans with more neutral colors are obviously going to fit more rooms, so it’s often desirable to go with those. Something you can move from one style of room to another, or keep when you redecorate your house is definitely something you want. Not clashing with the color scheme helps cut down on the profile of the fan, so a nice color scheme combined with a small size, can keep the fan at a very low profile in a room. You won’t even notice that it’s running in the corner if both of these are at work, and that’s definitely desirable.
Tower Fan Tips and Tricks
Tower fans are a fantastic alternative to the ceiling fans. The portability is great and they are powered by unique circulation systems. But just having a tower fan in your hands does not mean that the room will automatically be well circulated. This article will show you how to get the best out of your tower fan and beat the summer heat.
Planning the position – It Matters More Than You Think!
Before you find a place for your tower fan, you should decide what you want with it. If you feel hot enough in a room and are about to turn into jerky, then you need the fan blowing air directly on your body. In that case, check the fan speeds and the force of the airflow and keep the fan at a short distance from your body.
It may sound crazy having two or three fans in one room, but if you study ventilation 101, you’ll be surprised how effective airflow can be. One of them sucking air in from an entry point and the other blowing air out the exit creates a wind tunnel and drops temps very quickly. Another method is to have them both in opposite corners with their oscillators working out of phase to create a stirring effect.
The Most Effective Way To Use Them
In our business we have seen a lot of these being used over the years. In all honesty, most of them are used incorrectly. The best way of using these is to use them at night to bring the cool air inside and during the day to push hot air outside. To achieve that you need a balance between the fans pushing air out and fans bringing air in.
Windows To Avoid
Now I mentioned the fish market earlier but even around the home there are windows that you should avoid. If you plan on drawing air in from the outside, then a window that faces out on to a garbage area, a garage or car port, or anywhere smells or fumes should be avoided.

Tower Fan Vs. Pedestal Fan
Both are extremely portable devices that are light enough for you to frequently move around your house when the need arises. And they are both cheaper than window A/c units. But when it comes to choosing between the two, it is natural to get slightly confused.
Pedestal fans provide more control with the airflow: you get adjustable height settings, as well as some system to tweak the angle of airflow. If you want to focus the flow of air at a particular spot in a room, like your bed or a chair, for instance, a pedestal fan is a better choice.
Tower fans are usually bigger (longer) and more powerful than pedestal fans. The air flow starts from closer to the floor and might extend up to a reasonable height. You may not get adjustable height, but you do get vents for setting the angle. Tower fans are better if your want uniform airflow across a larger, wider living area, like your living room.
Tower Fan Vs. Air Conditioner Units
There is no contest when it comes to the actual cooling effect here: the A/c wins that one hand down. It can bring the room temperature down dramatically and offer more control over the actual temperature settings. A tower fan, on the other hand, can be expected to give a comfortable cooling sensation, not drops in ambient temperature.
Energy efficiency and costs are where tower fans come out on top in this contest. Air conditioners have to do a lot of heavy lifting to keep your room cool, especially in warm summers (think Arizona or California). And that translates into soaring energy bills. Towers fans are much more efficient since they have to do less work. In fact, according to some estimates, an A/c uses ten or fifteen times more energy than a tower fan.
How we picked
Doing this dramatically reduced our pool of potential test hardware, but we still had 1devices to test for this guide’s initial version—seven fans for a large room and five for small personal spaces. Since then, we’ve watched for new products by regularly checking in with manufacturers—reading press releases, emailing contacts, and meeting at trade shows. The most promising contenders have gone up against our picks in some head-to-head testing; many more have been dismissed as competitors.
For the 201update to this guide, we performed another round of testing on our existing picks and some promising new entries to the market. These fans are all designed for cooling an entire room:
The engineers at Intertek said our simple test rig was good enough to get a general idea of each fan’s airflow performance.
The three key metrics for measuring fans’ performance are airflow velocity, air circulation, and noise. We determined those three metrics—and learned how to effectively measure them—in several conversations with engineers at Intertek, an industrial product testing company based in the UK.
Our test space in 201was a small apartment in Boston, where we were able to build a rudimentary wind tunnel out of cardboard and duct tape. The wind tunnel, essentially an oversized duct, measured six feet in length and had a 14-by-14-inch opening on each end. With a fan blowing from one end and a handheld digital anemometer fastened to a microphone stand at the other, we were able to collect some basic airflow and velocity readings. Based on a description, the engineers at Intertek said our simple test rig was good enough to get a general idea of each fan’s airflow performance.
For each fan, we took a series of five velocity readings in feet per minute (fpm): lower left, lower right, upper left, upper right, and center. These figures were then multiplied by the square footage of the duct opening, averaged, and weighted according to the air velocity measurements recommended by engineers at Intertek (loosely described here). This gave us some airflow readings in cubic feet per minute (CFM), which is the standard unit of measurement used by HVAC contractors to determine the volume of air moving through a duct system.
Flaws but not dealbreakers
We have two real complaints and one long-term reliability issue.
First, dusting the surface of the machine or the nooks and crannies of its front grate or back plate is easy, but it’s staggeringly difficult to take apart and give it a thorough cleaning. (To be fair, just about every other tower fan is just as difficult to clean.) You can get in there with a Q-tip and clean out the holes, but it’s still a lot of work. A determined individual posted a step-by-step video on how to do it on YouTube.
The Seville Classic’s remote hanging from its storage hook. Photo: Tyler Lynch
Next, on the back of the fan, behind the on board control panel, a plastic hook is designed to hang the remote control. Everything else about the Seville seems so well-considered, but the hook feels like a clunky afterthought. It works well enough so long as the fan’s stationary, but put the remote in your pocket if you plan on picking up the Seville to move it.
These are the sleek and most modern looking fans with a small and compact footprint and a super airflow. Such fans can be placed in a corner and always blend well with furniture and the floor plants. If placed strategically, the fan would supply the whole room with fresh air effectively. Besides, the oscillation possibility makes it possible for the user to position the fan towards the wanted direction. Furthermore, some of the tower fans have inbuilt ionizers that enhance cleaning of the air too through the attraction of the impure particles.
Of all the other house oscillating fans, the Pedestal Fan is the most powerful and the best choice for a larger room. Most of this type is adjustable in height and tilt to allow the directing of the fan towards the intended direction. Besides, some even have adjustable fan speed as well as the oscillation ranges. As a matter of fact, the pedestal fan type has a large base due to its weight hence needs more floor space.
Floor fans are among the high-end types meant for heavy duty cooling and are the best substitute for air conditioners. They are built with powerful motors that move a lot of air towards the room hence cools the room quickly. Most of the floor fans are made in different styles that always tend to match the floor décor. They are also having adjustable settings for height and tilt that enables a precise flow of the air as per the wish of the user. Besides cooling the room, they are also the best appliance for drying up the floor after mopping or clearing a spillage.
Misting fan is another current development in air conditioner technology. These fans are capable of circulating both moisture and air. The fan is connected to a source of water, draws the water, and sprinkles it in very tiny droplets. Even though most of them are designed for outdoor, some are made for inside use. However, for the case of indoor use, it is recommended that they are used in low-humidity climate to enable the evaporation of the moisture before growing to mildew or mold.
1- Unlike the ordinary fan tower fan swings. This enhances the area in which it can direct the airflow.
2- There are some tower fans in the market which can rotate a full 360 degree. In addition, they also come with adjustable lighting selection for comfortable sleep in the night.

These days, energy efficiency is something many of us cannot easily ignore. Tower fans are often used for extended periods of time and as a result, an inefficient unit can cost a lot to run. As you might expect, and in contrast to heaters, modern fans are reasonably energy efficient. They typically draw around 200w of power, meaning that if your electrical costs are 15c per kilowatt hour (kWh) you can run it for approximately hours for the money.
Don’t make any assumptions about this however. We recommend you examine the manufacturer’s product data to confirm it. Also, it is worth knowing the amount you pay per kWh as this varies from region to region.
Apart from the energy used to operate your fan, another feature to confirm, covered in our list of features to look out for below, is the auto-shutoff feature. This handy feature ensures that you do not accidentally leave your fan running when you no longer need it.
Fundamentally, your fan should be easy to operate and incorporate a number of features that allow you to manage the use of it effectively. Click on the heading for more detail.
The control panel should be easy to access and well laid out for operation.
A remote control is great, and we recommend you look for a model with one. It makes controlling your purchase so much easier.
A timer shut-off
Although modern fans are pretty efficient and do not use up much energy, you should always remember that if you accidentally leave your fan running when you do not need it will potentially cost you dear. Buy your tower fan with a timer switch to avoid this.
Early fan models might best be described as utilitarian. They did not look great, but they did the job. Nowadays people expect better. They expect the fab to look good as well as operate effectively and efficiently. Tower fans are floor sited and as a result, the sleek and sophisticated look is easy to achieve. You have a choice, from the understated, quality look and feel of the Lasko 2554 to the Dyson AMwhich is nothing short of a conversation piece.
Tower fans tend to be sited on the floor. As a result, although stable stands are usually provided to ensure the unit does not tip over, the placement of the fan is important. This is especially true in the case of family environments which may include children and/or pets.
A typical tower fan weighs around 1lbs. For an adult, this is not particularly significant, but if it were to tip over onto a small child then it may well, at the very least, cause some distress. The same might be said for pets, and in particular dogs.
On the subject of children, it is worth emphasizing to them not to try to insert their fingers through the grill. The consequences of this should be obvious.
In addition, there is a risk that should the fan fall over onto a hard floor the casing might crack and the inner motor become faulty in some manner.
Clearly, the sensible option is to site the fan out of the potential path of moving objects to minimize the risk of being knocked.
A Look at our Tower Fan Testing Criteria
Just because a fan costs hundreds of dollars and is produced by a reputable company doesn’t mean it offers the type of quality and functionality you so desperately need in the summer months. Which is why we took it a step further and really put these models to the test.
So, how are tower fans tested for quality? When these fans are tested, most reviewers will take a look at three main criteria: noise, range, and power. That is to say, how wide the distribution is, how much airflow the fan is putting out and how noisy the unit is. Reading tower fan reviews can give you a more realistic look at how each model performs and how a fan rated in these three important areas.
When we tested fans, we started off by placing each model in the exact same setup, testing each point individually. In order to measure the airflow accurately, we used an anemometer, which is an air speed meter. This is placed directly in front of the fan. By switching up the fan’s angles, you can get a pretty decent idea of how wide the airflow will go before it stops offering any real cooling benefits. We also took a closer look at the oscillation angle in order to determine how well each model could keep multiple people cool in a single space. A fan’s noise can be measured using a sound level meter, but this step isn’t usually necessary with tower fans. Each fan is tested at their highest setting, in addition to any special modes such as night mode and day mode and the automatic shutoff feature.
First of all thanks for reading my article to the end! I hope you find my reviews listed here useful and that it allows you to make a proper comparison of what is best to fit your needs and budget. Don’t be afraid to try more than one product if your first pick doesn’t do the trick.
Most important, have fun and choose your Tower Fans wisely! Good luck!
